Mushers start in Anchorage, look ahead to rough trail

The ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage today enjoyed temperatures cold enough to keep the dogs sprightly and the snow frozen. But the low temperatures and lack of snow in recent weeks is making trail conditions unusually fast and hard. APRN caught up with several mushers and asked about their plans for attacking this year’s trail, starting in Willow tomorrow morning.

Where are the dogs and drums in the intro? You have been my link to the race for many years and to me the traditional intor is the “sound” of the race.

Thanks for the question, Linda. The sounds you seek start with tomorrow (Monday) morning’s first “Iditarod module,” a 4.5-minute piece you’ll be able to hear each weekday morning on APRN stations statewide. We’ll also post those here.

All the coverage on the site until then is really preliminary, so we haven’t integrated the intro music/barks/credits yet.
